Fadlo Khuri

Today as we honour Professor Fadlo Khuri, we know deep inside that the future of the American University is bright, as will be our future in this beloved country. He is for sure a distinguished person who guarantees the prosperity of this reputable institution.

Professor Fadlo Khuri comes from a renowned family in Marjayoun, a family where distinction is transmitted through inheritance exactly as a tradition enshrined in a population and in the contemporary history.

As a child, he was raised to be an eminent, generous, devoted, and caring personality, especially that he is the grandson of Fadlo Hourani. He has obviously inherited from him precious values; the home of Fadlo Hourani has always welcomed whoever turned to him, especially in London where he was known as the godfather of all Lebanese descendent, and in Manchester where he lived for a long period of time, and where he was always considered as an example of loyalty for ones country. He never waived the love of his land and always had a caring heart and some fruitful advices for their seekers, putting them on the right track and making them overcome difficulties.

Professor Fadlo Khuri, in turn, has followed his grandfather’s path, to become a pioneer in surgical medicine, and the author of several medical studies and researches. Under the framework of TOKTEN, a UNDP project, Dr. Khuri as a volunteer lebanese expatriate, contributed to the development of the National Cancer Treatment Guidelines, that were officially adopted by the ministry of health. Today we shall honour his achievements in medicine that are spread all around the world. We shall also honour his devotion and work in the scientific and medical studies that are particularly related to incurable diseases. Our professor has today come to Lebanon, putting his trust in this reputable institution. His election to preside the American university is therefore a confirmation and acknowledgement of his capabilities and achievements especially in terms of medical research.

With his high competence and utmost skills, he has managed to take control and responsibility while being ready to face every challenge by making great decisions, similar to those he has made throughout his entire journey.

Education and culture are definitely key objective for all, especially in this university presided by Professor Fadlo Khuri who has always played a pioneering role in this field. We have all witnessed his capabilities as to fostering the importance of the American university in the development of education in our country. Especially that this university has been a pathfinder for 150 years, always setting high standards and celebrating glorious educational achievements, despite the difficult situations the country was pushed into.

Today, I would like to thank every person who has contributed to the election of Professor Fadlo Khuri, and express my gratitude and proud, on behalf of “Selecteum of Arts and Sciences”, for honouring this distinguished person in this delightful musical evening animated by “Quatuor Musique del Tempo”.

I would also like to congratulate and thank the officers and officials of the University for sponsoring this celebration. Thanks are also in order for everyone who has participated in the organisation of this ceremony and contributed to its success. Finally I would like to wish Professor Fadlo Khuri success and prosperity, as he represents this historical university that has build generations in the name of humanity and citizenship. This university that was and will always be worthy of respect and appreciation.

Il convient aujourd’hui de rendre hommage au Professeur Fadlo Khoury, cette personne éminente qui offre des garanties de prospérité pour L’Université Américaine, et grâce à qui l'avenir s'annonce prometteur pour cette institution réputée et pour notre très cher pays.

Originaire de Marjayoun, Professeur Fadlo Khoury est le fils d’une famille de renommée qui transmet la distinction par héritage comme une tradition ancrée dans la culture et l’histoire.

Tout jeune, il à été élevé de sorte qu'il devienne une personne éminente, généreuse, dévouée, et déterminée, surtout qu’il est le petit-fils de Fadlo Hourani et qu’il a fait preuve d’avoir hérité de lui les valeurs les plus précieuses; la résidence de Fadlo Hourani à Londres a toujours accueilli ceux qui se sont adressés à lui, jusqu’à ce qu’il est devenu le parrain des Libanais à l’étranger. Il a vécu aussi à Manchester pour une longue période et fut l'exemple de la loyauté envers son pays. Il ne tarissait pas d'éloges à sa patrie et avait toujours un cœur d’or qui ne manquait jamais d’offrir les conseils les plus constructifs et fructueux qui dirigeaient leurs demandeurs et les mettaient sur la bonne voie.

C’est en suivant ce sentier, que Professeur Fadlo Khoury est devenu un pionnier en médecine chirurgicale, et l’auteur de différentes études et recherches médicales. Aujourd’hui, nous honorons ses accomplissements dans le monde de la médecine, et son dévouement aux études dans ce domaine scientifique surtout au niveau des maladies incurables. Notre Professeur est revenu à sa patrie mettant sa confiance en cette institution réputée. Son élection à sa présidence est, de plus, une bonne confirmation et reconnaissance de son pouvoir et succès, surtout au niveau des recherches médicales.

Avec sa haute compétence, Professeur Fadlo Khoury a certainement contribué à la direction et l’expansion de l’institution, tout en étant capable de surmonter tous les obstacles en prenant toujours les bonnes décisions.

L’éducation et la culture sont sans aucun doute des objectifs essentiels pour tous, particulièrement au sein de cette université présidée par Professeur Fadlo Khoury qui a joué depuis toujours un rôle de précurseur en matière d’éducation. Nous sommes tous témoins de sa capacité de direction et de gestion, dont il se sert pour continuer à renforcer l’Université Américaine surtout au niveau du développent de l’éducation dans notre pays. Cette université qui a rempli un rôle important en tant qu'éclaireur pour 150 ans, plaçant la barre très haut et vantant ses glorieuses réalisations malgré la situation difficile dans laquelle le Liban a été plongé.

Aujourd’hui, je voudrais remercier chaque personne qui a contribué à l’élection de notre Professeur Fadlo Khoury, et exprimer ma gratitude, au nom de «Selecteum of Arts and Sciences», d’avoir eu l’opportunité d’honorer une telle personne distinguée dans cette soirée musicale très agréable animée par «Quatuor Musique del Tempo».

Je tiens également à exprimer mes remerciements et ma reconnaissance aux responsables de cette université pour leur parrainage de cette cérémonie. Ces remerciements s'adressent aussi à chaque personne qui a participé à l’organisation et au succès de cet événement. Finalement, permettez-moi de souhaiter au Professeur Fadlo Khoury plein succès et prospérité, lui qui représente cette université historique qui a forgé des générations au nom de l’humanité et la citoyenneté, et qui a été et sera toujours digne de respect et d’appréciation.
